August 20, 2024 – A task force created by the Northern Mindanao Electric Cooperatives Association (NORMECA) has successfully initiated a major collaboration to enhance metering facilities in Marawi City, the first phase of which started last August 18 and to be completed on August 23 which involve the installation and improvement of 380 commercial metering units. This is a phase-driven work to be executed by Engineering teams established by PHILATMEC – NORMECA.
The task force, known as TASK FORCE LASURECO, brings together eight electric cooperatives from Region 10 , showcasing a robust collaboration within the region. The participating electric cooperatives include Misamis Oriental 1 Rural Electric Service Cooperative (MORESCO-1), Misamis Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative (MORESCO-2), Misamis Occidental 1 Electric Cooperative Inc (MOELCI-1), Misamis Occidental 2 Electric Cooperative Inc (MOELCI-2), First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative, Inc (FIBECO), Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative, Inc (BUSECO), Camiguin Electric Cooperative, Inc (CAMELCO), and Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LANECO). These are the 8 Electric coops – composing NORMECA.
NORMECA President Nonito M. Labis, DVM, during the opening ceremonies in LASURECO office complex expressed his gratitude for the dedication of the electric cooperatives, noting that the project will not be possible without the full support of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) and the Philippine Association of Technical Managers of Electric Cooperatives (PHILATMEC).
“This initiative once again will mark a significant milestone in the collective efforts to improve the reliability and accuracy of power distribution in Lanao del Sur in a long run,” Labis stated. “The upgraded metering facilities will enhance the efficiency of commercial energy consumption monitoring, hoping that ultimately this will bring better service delivery for the Marawi community.”
The project underscores the commitment of the electric cooperatives in Northern Mindanao to work together towards a common goal, ensuring that even a sister-EC in the BARMM region will benefit from improved electrical infrastructure. This project is a testament to the strength of collaboration among the electric cooperatives in Region 10.
