Linemen representing different member-electric cooperatives of Northern Mindanao Electric Cooperatives Association (NORMECA Region X) put their skills to the test during the NORMECA Linemen Event Players Selection 2023 held from May 23 – 25 in MORESCO-1 Linemen Training Camp, in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

A total of 52 highly skilled professionals with support team competed at the event, which was hosted by the Philippine Association of Technical Managers of Electric Cooperatives (PHILATMEC), MORESCO-1 and NORMECA. The goal is to select best players per category who meets the required skill and capacity to perform the event in preparation for Warriors of Light: Mindanao Summit on June 15-16, 2023 at DASURECO and Warriors of Light National Summit on June 28, 2023 at MORESCO-1.

The linemen participated in the following categories: pole climbing, pole dressing and undressing, conductor riding relay, knot tying, and spine board bandaging.

PHILRECA Executive Director and General Manager Atty. Janeene Depay-Colingan said the rodeo was an opportunity to showcase the skills of the linemen who risk their lives every day to keep the electricity running.

National Electrification Administration (NEA) Deputy Administrator for Technical Services Engr. Ernesto Silvano Jr. attended the opening ceremony of the 2nd Luzon Warriors of Light Summit and delivered a message on behalf of NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda. This was followed by the Visayas leg of the Linemen Rodeo and Competition which will also culminate in MORESCO-1 for the National Linemen Summit.

The event was organized by the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. (PHILRECA) together with the Philippine Association of Technical Managers of Electric Cooperatives (PHILATMEC), Philippine Electric Cooperatives Association of Safety and Environmental Officers (PECASEO) and United Linemen Association of the Philippines (ULAP).
