Message from Congressman Presley De Jesus | Representative, PHILRECA Party-list

Message from Congressman Presley De Jesus Representative, PHILRECA Party-list on MORESCO-1’s 52nd Annual General Membership Assembly and 54th Founding Anniversary.

THEME: “LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND: Achieving Total Electrification And Realizing Social Equitability Thru Empowerment Of The Rural Communities”

A great number of people in the movement would agree that Congressman Presley De Jesus, “Cong Pres” as we call him now, is known and loved for his leadership style – groovy but transformative, friendly but one that delivers.
For a man who was raised in a wealthy family, Cong. Pres could have pursued a career in other industries, but he chose to continue building a legacy in the rural electrification movement.

Cong. Pres has had a short stint in the movement yet he is driven by the same legacy that his own father started. While he thrived in his career in the U.S., the force that pulled him close to the movement was one of the reasons why he chose to set aside his personal ambitions.

It is only coincidence that his nickname “Pres” matched with the position he holds at Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (PHILRECA). However, such representation had to be elevated so that he can serve the movement better.

When he delivered his privilege speech on August 5, 2019 in Congress, Cong Pres did not fail to mention that he dedicates his triumph to the member-consumer-owners of all electric cooperatives, especially tothose who are still deprived of access to electricity.

“𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑦, 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑟 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑑𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠. 𝑅𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑘𝑒𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑟𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑑𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡.”

He emphasized that rural electrification must be given higher priority, for it is the key to rural development.
Being of service to the member-consumer-owners is central to his speech, and that his choice to represent them is deeply rooted on the fact that rural electrification, especially in the far-flung areas of the country, should primarily uplift the lives of people.

Cong. Pres also mentioned that in order to provide a more reliable and sustainable source of electricity, priority must also be given to renewable energy programs that must benefit the member-consumer-owners. These programs, he said, will be vital in providing cheaper electricity for all consumers.

While he is now one of the representatives of the 18th Congress, he will always be known as the groovy Cong Pres of the rural electrification movement. With high fives and high spirits, he will continue to be the leader who inspires his fellow advocates to take the advocacy to greater heights.

Cong. Pres serves as Vice Chairperson of House Committees on Energy, Disaster Management, and Land Use, and members of Cooperatives Development, Economic Affairs, Government Reorganization, Health, National Defense and Security, Natural Resources, Public Order and Safety, and Public Works and Highways.
