San Agustin Cathderal in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis_Oriental

San Augustine Cathedral

The Saint Augustine Cathedral was built in 1624 by Fray Agustin San Pedro who was called El Padre Capitan by the residents here. In 1778, both the church and convent were burned down. From its ruins, Fray Pedro de Santa Barbara, together with generous Cagayanons, built the new church which was inaugurated in 1780. But, it too did not last long as it was gutted in 1831. In 1841, the church was rebuilt using concrete materials. It was adorned with beautiful paintings of the four evangelists. It had a pipe organ. The wooden cross which stands today in the front of the cathedral, was erected in 1888. Archbishop James Hayes, SJ, in 1946 rebuilt the Cathedral and the Convent. It was about this time that the stained glass, given by the New York Sacred Heart chapel, was installed. (PHOTO : by Rhoel Condeza)

In a remarkable achievement, Misamis Oriental-1 Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Inc. (MORESCO-1) has once again demonstrated its commitment to quality and excellence. Following a rigorous assessment process, MORESCO-1 has been informed to maintain its certification with the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 standard, reaffirming its dedication to providing top-notch services to its member-consumer-owners.

The successful outcome of MORESCO-1’s ISO 9001:2015 first Surveillance audit by TUV NORD Phils, Inc. marks a significant milestone for the cooperative. M1 Employees also known as MJuan, the driving force behind this accomplishment, has played a pivotal role in ensuring that MORESCO-1 adheres to the highest international standards of quality management.

MORESCO-1, an electric cooperative established under the provision of Presidential Decree 269, serves as a vital distribution utility in the region. Operating within its franchise area, MORESCO-1 is responsible for supplying electricity to member-consumer-owners spanning from the Municipality of Lugait to Opol, City of El Salvador, hinterland barangays of Cagayan de Oro, and 15 barangays of Talakag, Bukidnon.

The maintenance of certification under ISO 9001:2015 underscores MORESCO-1’s unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. By adhering to stringent quality management practices, the electric cooperative aims to enhance operational efficiency, streamline processes, and deliver superior services to its member-consumer-owners.

The recommendation for the maintenance of the ISO 9001:2015 certificate further validates MORESCO-1’s adherence to best practices in quality management. As the cooperative continues its journey towards excellence, it remains steadfast in its mission to provide reliable and efficient electricity services to communities across this part of Region10.
