The recent electrification ceremony held on August 14, 2024, marks a significant step in improving living conditions for the 93 recipient households in three barangays—Mat-I, Mapulog, and Tagbalugo—within Naawan. This event is part of the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) led by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) in partnership with the Misamis Oriental-1 Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Inc (MORESCO-1). The ceremony celebrated the symbolic turnover and energization, which are crucial in the government’s effort to achieve full electrification of all sitios across the Philippines, aiming to boost economic development and alleviate poverty.

During this fifth installment of a planned series of seven to eight energization ceremonies, electricity was successfully delivered to several areas:

• Purok 3, Mat-I: 13 households received electricity with 10 electric posts installed, costing a total of PHP 916,963.60 for distribution lines and house wiring materials.
• Purok 1 Lower, Mapulog: 12 households benefited, with 11 electric posts erected at a total cost of PHP 994,121.12.
• Pastuhan, Tagbalogo: 28 households received power at a project cost of PHP 1,502,903.70.
• Tigbabanga, Tagbalogo, passing through Kalubihon, Mapulog: 40 households were electrified, with 89 posts installed, amounting to a project cost of PHP 8,954,091.41.

Gracing the occasion today were Mr. Von Borromeo of the Second District Congressional office of Congressman Yevgeny Vincente “Bambi” B. Emano; Naawan Vice Mayor Allan B. Roa; Municipal Kagawads Janeth Acain, Leah Buhian, Era Mae Macalong, Jeffrey Mahinay and Mark Ramnie Velez. Speaking in behalf of Director Joy Gil S. Mahinay was MCO President of Mapulog Mr. Eddie Cabiladas. Brgy Captain Belen A. Cabasan (Mapulog); Kagawad Jevan A. Jaudian in behalf of Brgy Captain Gedion C. Jagonal (Tagbalogo) were present to receive the Certificates of Completion.

SEP is a pivotal component of the government’s strategy to close the development gap in rural regions by supplying electricity to isolated sitios and puroks. These enclaves, often far from barangay centers, face substantial challenges due to the lack of reliable power. The program allocates resources for building distribution lines and house wiring, ensuring that eligible households can access modern energy, thereby enhancing their quality of life.

Lugait celebrated a landmark event last Saturday, August 10, 2024, as the National Electrification Administration (NEA) and Misamis Oriental-1 Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Inc (MORESCO-1) held the Energization Ceremony of the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP). This program, aimed at promoting economic development and reducing poverty, is dedicated to achieving 100% sitio electrification across the Philippines.

This fourth batch in a series of seven energization projects under the SEP has successfully brought electricity to Purok 5, Lower Biga with a total cost of PhP1,973308.34; Lao-Lao, Aya-aya with total amount of PhP1,357,168.77; and Malunaw, Betahon with total of P1,876,914.02, all in the municipality of Lugait. The electrification of these areas represents a significant advancement in enhancing the quality of life for the residents.

SEP is a key element of the government’s strategy to bridge the development gap in rural areas. By providing electricity to unlit sitios, puroks, or zones—territorial enclaves often located far from barangay centers—SEP addresses the significant challenges these communities face due to the lack of reliable power.

The program allocates funds for constructing distribution lines and house wiring facilities, ensuring that eligible households can access modern energy. As NEA and its partners like MORESCO-1 and the LGUs work tirelessly towards achieving full electrification, the bright future envisioned for these communities is steadily becoming a reality.
