NORMECA emerges OVERALL CHAMPION in Mindanao leg in 2023 Linemen Rodeo competition

NORMECA, a composite team of linemen from Region 10 electric cooperatives won the overall champion trophy of the 2023 Mindanao Warriors of Light Summit and Linemen Rodeo held from June 12 to 13, 2023 at the Gov. Douglas Ralota Sports Complex and Business Center, Brgy Mati, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The two-day event has brought together all Electric Cooperatives from across Mindanao, providing a platform to showcase the skills and talents of these brave linemen in team and individual competitions. Different teams representing Regional associations of ECs participate in the “Warriors of Light” regional summit, which tested their technical skills like pole climbing, pole dressing and undressing, spine board bandaging, and conductor riding and other events.

The winners will compete in the National Linemen Rodeo scheduled on June 29-30 in MORESCO-1’s Emmanuel Pelaez Training Complex, Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

Hosted by DASURECO, the Mindanao island summit was designed to exhibit the technical skills of line workers, as well as promote safe work practices. The activity also aimed to serve as a platform to recognize their sacrifices and efforts to go above and beyond the call of duty.

The series of events all over the three island groups were organized by the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. (PHILRECA) together with the Philippine Association of Technical Managers of Electric Cooperatives (PHILATMEC), Philippine Electric Cooperatives Association of Safety and Environmental Officers (PECASEO) and United Linemen Association of the Philippines (ULAP). Happy 73rd Charter Anniversary CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY

Today is the 73rd Charter Day of Cagayan de Oro City.

Here are some interesting facts.

Starting 1946, Misamis Congressman Pedro S. Baculio lobbied in the Philippine Congress so that Cagayan de Misamis, which was reeling from the ashes of war, would be declared a city. On December 17, 1949, the new Congressman Emmanual Pelaez introduced House Bill No. 54, entitled “An Act Creating the City of Cagayan de Oro”. President Elpidio Quirino signed the city charter at 11:30 am, June 15, 1950.

Pelaez appended “de Oro” to “Cagayan” in recognition of gold mining in the hinterland barrios known to Spanish explorers in 1500s.

The first appointed mayor of Cagayan de Oro was Max Y. Suniel, followed by Justiniano R. Borja in 1954. Borja was elected as mayor again in 1955, and was repeatedly elected and appointed until he died on October 3, 1964. He was called the “Arsenio Lacson of Cagayan de Oro”, being responsible for the phenomenal growth of the city since 1959, when he opened the Cogon Market.

Here are some old photos from the internet of old Cagayan de Misamis and a link to its history.
