March is annually recognized nationwide as Fire Prevention Month.

Today morning, March 1st, MORESCO-1, along with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) of Laguindingan, local government units, firefighting agencies, and educational institutions, conducted a motorcade and various activities aimed at promoting fire prevention measures.

You might be curious as to why March was chosen as Fire Prevention Month. The origins trace back to 1967 when President Ferdinand Marcos signed Proclamation No. 115-A designating the year 1967 and every subsequent year as Safety and Accident Prevention Year. This proclamation allocated each month of the year to focus on a specific safety and accident prevention theme. March was designated as Fire Prevention Month due to historical data indicating a surge in fire incidents during this period, as reported by the National Statistical Coordination Board.

The proclamation aimed to foster a culture of safety consciousness throughout the year, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures such as caution, vigilance, sobriety, common sense, and respect for the law. Therefore, it is encouraged to actively participate in fire prevention drills and activities in workplaces, schools, or local communities as readiness is always valuable.

In Case of FIRE and other EMERGENCIES, please IMMEDIATELY call the hotline numbers in your localities.
