Good morning, Pilipinas! Respetohan nato ang atong kasaysayan!

#todayinhistory June 19, 1861: Dr. Jose Rizal was born in Calamba, Laguna to Francisco Mercado and Teodora Alonzo.
In celebration of his 161st birth anniversary, may we honor his life by living in courage and empathy for our fellow Filipinos.

With his two novels – Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Dr. Rizal paid dearly with his life, led his people to freedom, and set in motion the establishment of the Philippine Republic.

A well-educated and travelled Filipino, Dr. Jose Rizal’s life is one of the most documented of 19th century Filipinos due to the vast and extensive records written by and about him. Almost everything about his short life is recorded, being himself a regular diarist and prolific letter writer, much of the material having survived to this day and ready to be explored and studied by young generation of Filipinos.

Throughout his life, Dr. Jose P. Rizal has strongly displayed his nationalism and patriotism which have greatly contributed to our forefathers’ pursuit of peace, justice, freedom, and independence against the colonizers.

Today, we instill the values of protecting our own, property, culture, our sovereignty. We protect our nation’s values and safety by continuing to strive to live up to our ideals. That means that fear never trumps compassion, prejudice never trumps hospitality, and violence is always the last option, never the first. Let’s protect and guard what is ours even those who we serve – our member -consumer-owners.
