Energy access is a major game-changer in empowering a country – but the depressing fact remains that more than a billion people globally still don’t have access to electricity services – a basic need that marginal segments of populations – or those in the ‘laylayan’ are morally being denied of.

The Philippines is in no case different – and as estimated by government, this archipelagic country still has roughly 2.0 million households not seeing the ‘light of day’ when it comes to getting electricity service and these are typically located in marginal areas considered ‘uneconomically viable.’

MORESCO-1 embarked on a collaborative journey with the Aboitiz Foundation through our Institutional Services Department (ISD) in an endeavor to bring light to 22 households in San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon. This initiative, known as the Dan’ag (Give Light) – Light A Home Project, aimed to uplift the lives of our marginalized community members in this part of our service area. The materials for the house wiring installation donated by Aboitiz Foundation amounted to P150,000.00

The ceremony to energize this project is set to take place on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon. Oversight of the project was provided by MORESCO-1’s Institutional Services Team, and it was implemented across two dates with assistance from dedicated electrical engineering students from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), guided by the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) Cagayan de Oro Chapter, along with our esteemed colleagues from the Talakag Service Area.

In appreciation of the support and partnership from stakeholders, leaders from Aboitiz Power and Aboitiz Foundation, the Local Government Unit of Talakag, MORESCO-1, the Barangay Council of San Isidro, Talakag, and the project beneficiaries themselves will join us in commemorating this significant achievement on February 29. Their support greatly contributes to the sense of community and cooperation that underlies this initiative.
